The Global Medical Relief Program is organized into two groups: the incorporated national organization and local affiliate groups located across the country. The national organization acts as a coordinating body, handling logistics, development of international contacts, international shipping, quality control, large-scale donations, grant applications, and coordinating and managing affiliates. Affiliate organizations primarily work with local contacts to collect supplies and equipment and are vital to the effectiveness of the organization. The strength of GMRP as a whole is based on the networks and relationship affiliates develop with local hospitals, businesses and other donors.
