Over the last two years, GlobeMed has been very excited to build a relationship with Medicina y Asistencia Social (MAS), a non-profit, Mexico-based philanthropy that works to build and maintain health infrastructure in Chiapas , Mexico . Organized mainly by students and young people, MAS is an ideal partner organization and a vital component of GlobeMed's work. Primarily, GlobeMed has focused on fundraising on behalf of MAS. Each spring, GlobeMed organizes a benefit event to collects funds and spread awareness regarding public health in rural Mexico . Included in the 2003 event was an auction of Latin-American art, and a presentation by Dr. Alvaro Alonzo. Dr. Alonzo is currently based at Tufts University in Boston , and is one of the founders of the MAS initiative. His stories and information provided a clear and personal picture of the work that MAS and GlobeMed perform for all who attended the event. Total, these events have raised approximately $1500.
